Southern John root (sometimes called Dixie John root or Beth root) is an excellent root for spells regarding love, lust, family and general luck. Southern John can be carried to invite a marriage proposal or have a marriage proposal accepted and can also be carried to bring in prosperity. Some people drink the tea to draw luck in love.

Suggested magical uses:

Make a magic potion tea.

Burn on a charcoal as an incense.

Sprinkle around a room or property.

Add to a bath for spiritual cleansing.

Carry in a mojo bag along with other herbs and talismans.

Sprinkle on or around a spell candle.

Add to a spiritual oil.

For in-depth information on how to use this and other herbs and roots magically, I recommend Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic and Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, both of which can be found in our Books section.
