Making a Charm Bag: A Mojo Bag How To Guide

You can add personal concerns to mojo bags

What Is a Mojo Bag?

A mojo hand, gris-gris bag, toby hand, medicine bag or charm bag. It’s a flannel bag filled with magical items designed to bring a desitre to the person who wears it in a secret place. Tuck it in the pocket, a brassiere, or pinnws to the undergarments.

A mojo bag comes to us from African-American hoodoo. It is traditionally made with a flannel bag filled with a mix of herbs, curios, minerals, talismans and petition papers. And all are unique to your desire.

If you order a mojo bag kit, then you receive a combination of items that will be most effective for your intention. If you order an assembled mojo bag, Madame Pamita hand-assembles your mojo bag. She blesses each item and asks the spirit of the item to work on your behalf.

When you put together your own the bag, just add a pinch of each herb in the flannel bag asking it to do its work for you. Remember that a pinch is all you need! The bag should to be small, flat and easily worn in secret. It should not be a big overstuffed bean bag – less is more!

Everything You Need to Make Your Own Mojo Bag

You can buy a mojo bag kit or craft one from scratch. Want to see videos showing you step-by-step how to make a mojo bag? And how to make a petition paper for your mojo bag, please visit the Hoodoo How To Videos page.

You can purchase a flannel mojo bag and ingredients for making your own by going to the Herbs page. Or you can purchase a ready-made Mojo Bag kit. It includes a handmade flannel bag, Parlour of Wonders premium spiritual oil, specially selected herbs and talismans for your intention, and complete printed instructions, all put together especially for you.

Adding Personal Concerns to Your Mojo Bag

To link a mojo bag to you or someone else, you may add personal concerns. Personal concerns such as nail clippings, hair or bodily fluids can go in a bag along with a petition paper stating your wish for your spell.

After you’ve added herbs, curios, talismans and personal concerns, the next step is to breathe into the bag, giving it life to work with you and for your intention. Breathe gently into the bag several times with your eyes closed, focusing on your wishes.

Breathe into the bag. Then pull the cord tight and tie the bag shut while whispering your intention over it. Finally, you can anoint it or feed it by touching it with a few spots of a Spiritual Oil. Use one aligned with your intended outcome.

How to Care for Your Bag

Treat your mojo bag with the utmost care and respect, as you would a powerful spirit or beloved pet. Give your mojo bag a name and speak to it to ask it to work on your behalf.

For the first seven days that you own it, you will keep it as close to you as possible, wearing it next to your skin and sleeping with it under your pillow only setting it aside when you shower, bathe or go swimming.

After seven days, you may continue to wear it next to your skin, carry it in a pocket or purse or keep it in a special place and only carry it when you need its effects.

About once a week, you will need to feed the mojo bag. Each mojo bag kit includes a spell kit-sized bottle of Madme Pamita Spiritual Oil to “feed” it. Feed your mojo bag by passing it through incense or by dabbing it with five spots of a spiritual oil, whisky, cologne, or bodily fluids.

It is traditional to put a small amount of oil on your finger and touch the mojo bag in a five-spot pattern like the spots on the 5 side of a die – once in each of the four corners and once in the middle.

Never let anyone else see or touch your mojo bag. If someone else see it, re-establish your connection to it by feeding it daily and wearing it next to your skin for seven days.

Touching by another person will kill a mojo bag. If someone touches yours, it should be remade or replaced. Once a year, you should have your mojo bag refreshed by a rootworker with a new bag and fresh herbs while keeping and reusing the hard talismans and curios.

  1. What should you do if you have forgotten to feed your mojo bags for days/weeks/months? Can you still re establish a connection or should we make a new one?

    1. Try reviving it (feed it for seven days – wear it next to you for seven days) and see if you get results – if it doesn’t seem to be working, then it’s time for a new one.
